January Moot Court Class!

Do you love to argue? Are you quick on your feet? Whether you are a philosopher who loves to explore concepts of morality or a math major with a keen analytical mind, you might enjoy our January Intersession Moot Court.

Moot Court is a challenging one-credit course that simulates the appellate court setting. Students become knowledgeable about existing legal controversies, prepare legal arguments, and present a case before a mock judicial panel. Students also gain insight into court-based decision making, as well as the role of lawyers and judges within the process.

Exclusive Session with Presiding Judge at Brooklyn Mental Health Court

Judge Matthew J. D'Emic presides over the Brooklyn Mental Health Court, which works with approximately 100 felony and misdemeanor defendants each year. The Court aims to improve the court system's ability to identify, assess, evaluate and monitor offenders with mental illness, create effective linkages between the criminal justice and mental health systems, and improve public safety by ensuring that participants receive high quality community-based services.Judge D'Emic will host this special exclusive session for Hunter students.

Date: Wednesday, October 29
Time: 1:00 pm (Arrive at 12 noon, to allow 1 hour to pass through security)
Place: 320 Jay Street, Supreme Court – Criminal Term, Brooklyn

Stipends Available for Law School Application

A limited number of stipends (10-15) are available to cover the costs – up to $1000 – of LSAC and individual school application fees. Students and alumni who are committed to attending law school will be considered on the basis of academic merit.

Eligibility:
Stipends will be awarded only to

  • Matriculated Hunter students and alumni (graduated since 1/1/2011)
  • Applying to law school this cycle (2014–2015)
  • Applying for entry into law school in 2015.

Deadline: January 10, 2015

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applications will not be reviewed without a reported LSAT score.

Be sure to include the Stipend Application Worksheet 2014 with application. Those under consideration will need to have this worksheet reviewed and approved by the Pre-Law Advising Office in a subsequent meeting (i.e. after you apply). You will be contacted directly by the office.
