Resume Bootcamp

Attend Resume Bootcamp with Heather Butts, founder of L.E.A.R.N. for Life Consulting, LLC. Gain insight into polishing a strong resume, with the intention of applying for summer internships. This session is required for all students who will be participating in the Hunter Resume Drop, in order to be considered for paid summer internships and funding for summer public interest positions.

Fried Frank 2016 Diversity LSAT Initiative:

Test Prep with Carolyn Nelson - Spring Jumpstart

Applications are now being accepted for the Spring Jumpstart component of Hunter's subsidized LSAT prep program, a diversity initiative sponsored by the Fried Frank Law Firm. Students who are accepted and successfully complete the spring program will be given priority for the Summer Intensive class. Students may be able to apply separately for the summer program, but those seats will be filled on an as-available basis. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly recommended. The summer class includes 8 practice diagnostic administrations and more than 20 course sessions.

This is a subsidized program. Student contribution: $50.00.

Columbia Law Arbitration Day:

The System Reexamined: Challenging Assumptions in International Arbitration

Columbia Law Arbitration Day brings together scholars, practitioners, and students from all over the world for an annual discussion on the challenges that drive the international arbitration community. The four panels each require us to reevaluate preconceptions of international arbitration, including the trends and prospects of class arbitrations, the role of auxiliaries and associated conflicts of interest, challenges to the system's legitimacy, and the enforcement of arbitral awards in situations of public international law violations.

President's Conference Room Series

Dave S. Hattem is the Senior Executive Director and General Counsel for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company. Mr. Hattem leads the company's Law Department, including the compliance and corporate secretary offices. Prior to his appointment as General Counsel in 2010, Mr. Hattem served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, taking on this role in 2004. Mr. Hattem joined the Law Department in 1994 after serving in senior management positions in the Office of the U. S Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He began as an Assistant United States Attorney in 1985, and went on to become Acting Chief and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.

Inside the Surveillance State

The exposure of the NSA'ss enhanced surveillance programs was a shocking revelation to a nation that values privacy, security, and individual liberty. In the name of national security, a panel of constitutional experts will contemplate the morality and legality of government surveillance, and weigh the costs of this practice, for both present and future generations. Discussants will include: Linda Greenhouse, Knight Distinguished Journalist in Residence and Joseph Goldstein Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School, as well as a former Supreme Court correspondent for The New York Times, Robert Post, Dean and Sol & Lillian Goldman Professor of Law at Yale Law School, and Kenji Yoshino, Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law at NYU School of Law.

Pre-Law Resume Drop: Summer 2016 Internships & Funding

Similar to the law school model for recruitment, Hunter hosts a resume drop, which allows Pre-Law students to be considered for:

1) Paid internships exclusive to Hunter, or
2) Merit funding for unpaid nonprofit/government positions that students obtain with guidance from the Pre-Law Office

Participation in the Resume Drop requires students to participate in the following workshops:
Resume Bootcamp – Monday, February 1
Interview Workshop – Wednesday, February 17
Panel Discussion on Workplace Success – Wednesday, March 2

Merit Stipend for 2016 Law School Applications

A limited number of merit-based stipends (no less than 10) will be awarded to help students cover the cost of LSAC and individual school application fees (not to exceed $1000). Stipends will be awarded only to those who are applying to law school this cycle (2015 - 2016), for entry into law school in 2016.

McNair Scholars Program:

Are You Interested in Graduate School?

The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program is currently recruiting Hunter College juniors who are interested in obtaining doctoral degrees. Accepted students have the opportunity to attend paid summer research opportunity programs and participate in numerous activities throughout the year. Program participants may receive a stipend up to $2,800 per academic year upon successful completion of stated activities and goals.

The program provides assistance with graduate application preparation, faculty mentoring, research presentation opportunities for various conferences, and scholarship/fellowship applications. Program participants visit numerous university campuses and meet graduate admissions officials. Free Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation workshops are also offered to students.
