National Science Foundation Graduate Research
Fellowship Program!
The fellowship provides three years of financial support including a $30,000 annual stipend, $10,500 cost of education allowance and a one-time $1000 travel grant. U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents at or near the beginning of research-based graduate studies in relevant social science, science, and mathematics disciplines are eligible to apply. Application deadlines are November 2-12, 2009, depending on field of study.
Part-Time Student Support Program Offers Scholarships and Support to Part-Time Students For Spring 2010!
Are you a part-time student struggling financially or otherwise to complete your degree? Could you accelerate graduation by taking more classes if you received funding? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Hunter may be able to help through its Part-Time Student Support Program for which you may be eligible.
To apply for funding log onto to the Part-Time Student Support Program website at http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/studentservices/current/parttime and click on the “Apply for Funding” link and follow the directions. If you do not also have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for academic year 2009-2010 please complete one immediately - you may do so at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please be sure to complete the 2009-2010 form. Applications are due November 13th so log on today!!!
The Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship- Information Meetings
An exceptional opportunity for first year and sophomore students
The Program gives promising and accomplished undergraduates the possibility of on-the-job learning that will provide opportunities for leadership and personal growth. The Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship offers students the opportunity for paid internships of $5,000- $6,000 for three consecutive summers. Interns will explore work in nonprofit organizations, government service, private enterprise and a summer abroad. The internship will be developed in consultation with the Fellow in terms of the Fellow's growing interests. To be eligible, by the time of application, you must be a second semester freshman or sophomore. Candidates must be no older than 25 years old as of March l, 2010 and must be a US citizen or "green card" holder. Interested students will submit the application to Hunter’s campus representative, Myrna Fader, Office of Student Services. The campus deadline is February 1, 2010.

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
Attention Sophomores & Juniors Interested in Science, Math and Engineering Careers!
The Goldwater Scholarship can pay for your Hunter education in your junior and/or senior years! This national prestigious scholarship pays $7500 to support your research project in the natural sciences and mathematics. To apply you must be nominated by a Hunter faculty member and have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and an interest in conducting undergraduate research. Visit: http://www.act.org/goldwater/

2009 CUNY Nobel Science Challenge: A Competition for CUNY Undergraduate Students
The Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics are among the world’s most prestigious awards for humanity’s most complex and far-reaching ideas.
Now, CUNY undergraduates are invited to submit an essay of 1000-1500 words explaining the science behind the 2009 Nobel prizes – to describe how these concepts are influencing our world today, and to predict the future significance of this research to humanity.
Essay must make the science accessible to the lay person.
Prizes will be awarded in each category:

Medicine Chemistry
Physics Economics
- First Prize: Apple iMac Computer (incl MS Office & Photoshop software
- Second Prize: Dell Mini 10 Netbook (w/ MS Office & wireless printer)
- Third Prize: Amazon Kindle wireless reading device
First Prize winners from each category will be forwarded to a second faculty committee that will select the Grand Prize winner for the best essay submitted overall. The winner will receive a Grand Prize of $5,000.

Beinecke Scholarship for Graduate Study: The Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
The Beinecke Scholarship Program has invited Hunter College to nominate one student for a $34,000 scholarship to use towards a master’s or doctoral degree in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The competition is open to “juniors,” students who expect to receive a baccalaureate degree between January and August 2011. Demonstrated academic achievement and a history of being eligible for financial aid are among the criteria. Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest – Deadline: January 10, 2010
The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest 2010 is now open.
This national competition, open to full-time juniors and seniors, is designed to challenge college students to analyze today’s urgent ethical issues. The Foundation will select five winners in this national competition. Hunter College has had a winner! At the Foundation’s website you may read the winning essay of David Greven, Hunter’s 1996 winner.

Morris K. Udall Undergraduate Scholarship
Interested in Working for the Betterment of the Environment?
The Morris K. Udall Foundation offers scholarships to students who are sophomores and juniors and who have the commitment and potential to make significant contributions to the environment and related fields. This national scholarship program provides a scholarship of up to $5,000 and offers the opportunity to participate in a special scholar orientation weekend to meet and work with a national network of environmental leaders.

CUNY Pipeline Program: For Careers in College Teaching and Research
The program is a one and one-half year undergraduate program designed to provide educational and financial support for underrepresented college juniors interested in pursuing the Ph.D. in preparation for college-level teaching and advanced research in any discipline. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents who will be graduating by June 2011. Selected students receive stipends totaling $3,250 which cover the costs of graduate school applications, the GRE and the full-time summer workshop.
