$1,000 NYCHA-CUNY Resident Scholarship

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is committed to supporting our residents by offering them opportunities to further their education at The City University of New York (CUNY). Since 2005, the NYCHA-CUNY Resident Scholarship Program has aided several CUNY students in achieving their professional goals. CUNY is proud to partner with NYCHA to support the efforts of public housing residents in their pursuit of higher education.

Two scholarships are available:

  • NYCHA-CUNY Resident Scholarship
    for residents who are full-time undergraduates at a CUNY college
  • Regina A. Figueroa Memorial Scholarship
    for residents with documented disabilities who are full-time undergraduates at a CUNY college.

Eligibility: 

  • Be an authorized NYCHA resident
  • Be a sophomore, junior or senior student
  • Be enrolled in a CUNY Associate or Baccalaureate degree program
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Submit a 500-word autobiographical essay

Scholarships for Undocumented LGBTQI

The Stonewall Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Levin-Goffe Scholarship to help support undocumented immigrants pursuing higher education in New York City who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer or intersex. This is one of nine scholarships offered by Stonewall.

Fulbright Grants Available: Study, Research & Teach Abroad!

Are you graduating by 2016 or already in graduate school? If you’re thinking of going abroad to study, teach English, or do research, a Fulbright grant may offer you that opportunity in the country of your choice for a year! Hunter students have traveled to study anthropology in Thailand, religion in Germany, work in non-governmental agencies in Malawi, or teach English in Turkey and Argentina, among many other countries.

McNair Scholars Program for Students Interested in Graduate School

The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program is currently recruiting Hunter students interested in obtaining doctoral degrees. Accepted students have the opportunity to attend paid summer research opportunity programs and participate in numerous activities throughout the year. Program participants may receive a stipend up to $2,800 per academic year upon successful completion of stated activities and goals.

This program provides assistance with graduate application preparation, faculty mentoring, research presentation opportunities for various conferences, and scholarship/fellowship applications. Also, free Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation workshops are offered to students.
