Hunter Takes Precautions to Protect Students, Faculty and Staff During the Flu Season!

As part of the public health campaign, Hunter College has placed personal bottles of hand sanitizer at key locations around the campus.

The goal is to protect everyone at Hunter. Pick up a bottle whenever you need one, but please take and use just one at a time.

The hand sanitizers have been placed in baskets in high-traffic locations, including:

  • Brookdale Residence Hall
  • Public safety stations
  • Libraries
  • Registrar's Office
  • The Welcome Center
  • Student Services' Office
  • Health Office
  • OASIS
  • Financial Aid Office
  • USG's Office

We have also provided bottles for each academic department, and we will monitor supplies to keep them as current as possible.

Meanwhile, please take common-sense steps against infection.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water every chance you get.
  • Keep your hands away from your mouth, nose or eyes.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing - inside the crook of your elbow is best.
  • Stay home if you’re sick, and wait 24 hours after your fever goes away before going out again.
  • Get vaccinated for both the seasonal and the H1N1 flu.

For additional information, please continue to visit Hunter's "Flu Prevention and Preparedness" website. We encourage everyone to read it carefully and to return to it regularly for updates. you can reach it from the Hunter homepage, or directly at: www.hunter.cuny.edu/flu.

Let's all do everything we can to get through this challenge.

Join Flu Fighters! – Become a Flu Fighter Volunteer Coordinator!

Volunteer to help protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers this influenza season. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene—in partnership with NYC Service—would like our staff and students to play an important role in helping promote and protect the health of New Yorkers this influenza season.

Each year, more than 2,000 New Yorkers die from influenza and its complications, and many others become ill. This is particularly important this year, as there is a new H1N1 strain of influenza circulating. Flu Fighters is a volunteer program which aims to reach out to as many New Yorkers as possible to encourage influenza awareness and vaccination, which is the best way to protect against influenza.

Please look for the “Join Flu Fighters” flyers posted around campus and take action. Find out how to volunteer at flufighters@health.nyc.gov or call 212-676-2278.

Attending meetings on campus is a convenient way to compliment what you learn from your health care team and motivate you towards better daily diabetes management.
