MINORITY GROUP STUDENTS

gps_title.gif

Graduate schools are interested in recruiting well-qualified minority students who are under- represented in a discipline. Therefore, many graduate schools or specific departments offer special financial assistance. Some schools have an Office of Minority Affairs, others have less formalized programs. It is usually a good idea to contact the prospective school and ask if there are any programs or fellowships for which you may be eligible.

PROJECT 1000 is a national organization created as an initiative to recruit and retain Hispanic, African American and Native American students in graduate level programs for which the GRE is required. Special features of the program include: one application packet, duplicated and mailed to seven universities of the student's choice, free workshops and information to help students preparing to take the GRE. For further information and the application call (800) 327-4893, www.asu.edu/project1000.
