Student Elections Week is Coming! - YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
The Undergraduate Students’ General Election will once again be online. This enables you to vote while at school, work or home. Computers are available for your convenience throughout the campus, in the library, cafeteria, hallways, etc. We are bringing the “polls” to you, making the ballot more accessible so that you can take part in the election process in greater numbers than ever before.
When to Vote:
Voting is scheduled Monday, May 1, 2017 (12:01am) – Monday, May 5, 2017 (11:59pm).
How to Vote:
In order to vote online, you must set up your Hunter e-mail account. If you have not yet set up your Hunter e-mail, please go right away to the SNET Helpdesk in Room TH-400.
By Sunday April 30th, the company administering the election (firstname.lastname@example.org) will send you an e-mail with a voter registration code, which you will need in order to vote. The voter registration code, along with instructions, will allow you to view and submit your ballot on the company’s special Hunter elections website when the “polls” open on May 1st. Election results will be posted on the election site immediately after the polls close on Friday, May 5th. (Note: If others are able to access your e-mails, or if you think they have the ability to do so, you should make the necessary adjustments immediately).
What positions are on the ballot:
You will have the opportunity to vote, via the web, for the following 34 positions:
Eight (8) Executive Board Members: President, Vice President, Finance Commissioner, Evening Affairs Commissioner, External Affairs/Public Relations Commissioner, Student Welfare/Academic Affairs commissioner, Cultural Affairs/Student Activities Commissioner, and Residence Life Commissioner* (see note below).
Fourteen (14) Undergraduate Student Government Senators: (including two freshmen, four sophomores, four juniors and four seniors)
*Online voting for the Residence Life Commissioner is being offered to students living in all the Residence Halls: 97th and 92nd Streets, and Brookdale Campus. Your Commissioner will be on the ballot, with the rest of the USG Executive Board Members. The position can only be viewed and voted on by students living in the three (3) dormitories as in the past. No more manual voting!
College Association (4 positions available)
Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation (3 positions available)
Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee (6 positions available)
Learn About the Candidates
The following information and events will assist you in selecting your candidates:
- Each candidate is asked to submit their picture and a 100 word campaign statement which will be posted on the election website, which you will be able to access when you receive your elections e-mail.
- All candidates are asked to participate in a "Meet The Candidates Forum/Debate" to introduce themselves and their platform to the electorate.
- The list of candidates and their party affiliation, if any, will be posted in the glass-enclosed "Elections" bulletin board on 3rd Floor, West.
Please note that in an effort to increase student participation, campaign funds are now available (see the election packet for details).
Please note, to be eligible to seek office, all declaration forms must have been submitted by 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 13th, 2017.
