Introduction

Dear Students,

I am delighted to welcome you to Hunter College’s web page regarding scholarship and grant opportunities. On this web page you will find information about a wide variety of funding available through Hunter College and other organizations to eligible students. I encourage you to take full advantage of these funding streams whenever appropriate. It is my hope that you will apply in a timely manner to as many funding sources as possible. Further, if at first you are not selected for an award or grant, I recommend that you apply again in the future as both your eligibility and the fund’s requirements may change over time, or additional funding may become available. Hunter College’s first and foremost goal is to support your academic success and assist you in your goal to graduate from Hunter College. The educational funding programs described below are in place to assist you. I urge you to use them to meet the financial needs of your college career.

I wish you continued success in all your endeavors.

Sincerely,
Eija Ayravainen
Vice President for Student Affairs
Dean of Students

Financial Aid

Financial Aid includes federal and state aid, such as the New York State Tuition Assistance Program; some forms of institutional aid; and loans. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine a student’s eligibility for financial aid. To learn more, visit Financial Aid.

Hunter College Scholarships

The majority of Hunter College scholarship funding is awarded in the spring semester for the following academic year. For example, scholarships distributed for the academic year Fall 2012– Spring 2013 would be awarded in the Spring 2012 semester. Hunter students’ FAFSAs (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will also serve as their applications for Hunter College scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year.  No additional forms are needed. To file, log onto www.fafsa.ed.gov. However, you may contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by email (scholarships@hunter.cuny.edu) with questions regarding scholarships. Please include your first and last name as it appears on your official Hunter record, your telephone number and address, and include Scholarship Inquiry in the subject line. If you are eligible and scholarship funding is identified, you will be contacted by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Please note: All incoming first-year students will be reviewed for scholarship eligibility following their admission, and will be contacted by the Office of Recruitment and Outreach prior to the start of the Fall semester.
