We are happy you have chosen to continue your education at Hunter College. We welcome you to our dynamic and diverse community. Our aim is to provide you with the tools you need to succeed in meeting your academic goals. We will be working with you as you transition into the Hunter community through graduation.
We provide a number of specific programs to help you assimilate into and succeed at Hunter College. After you have confirmed your admission and your commitment deposit clears our systems, we send you an invitation to an orientation program. We send all invitations and announcements to your @MyHunter e-mail account. You can find details about orientation and make your reservation on your MyHunter portal page. At orientation, we discuss how your transfer credits and previous college-level work applies to Hunter’s curriculum, especially the Hunter Core Requirement. We also cover registration, developing an academic plan, placement assessments for math and/or foreign language, faculty advising as well as critical policies. You will be able to meet with an academic advisor individually to go over your registration plans. You also have the opportunity to meet your classmates in smaller groups. In addition, we offer follow-up advising days and chat rooms to help you finalize your first-semester registration plans.
Following registration, your first semester will commence. We will provide you with an assigned advisor who will expect to meet with you within the first six weeks of the semester to help you with issues needing immediate attention as well as formulate a long-term academic plan for reaching your academic goals. Your assigned advisor's information and instructions for booking an appointment will be listed in your MyHunter portal page.
Our objective is to help you become familiar with how to plan your academic program, understand guidelines and expectations for your major and learn how to locate the services and resources you need to achieve your goals.
We are excited about your decision to be a Hunter Hawk! We look forward to meeting you.
Maureen O'Conor, Director of Transfer Programs
Bertha Peralta-Rodriguez, Assistant Director of Transfer Programs
