New York State
New York State's Department of Labor
has a dedicated office just for veterans. It provides many services
specifically geared to veterans. Among the services available:
- Career assessment
- Referral to jobs
- Contacting employers on your behalf
- Resume preparation assistance
- Information on Federal, State, and Local Civil Service opportunities
- Job search planning
- Labor Market Information
- Information on direct appointment to Civil Service positions
- Referral to other agencies that provide services to veterans
New York City
The City of New York employs thousands of veterans, reservists and Guard members, in dozens of agencies and departments. From the NYPD and the FDNY to the Department of Education and even CUNY, New York City has hundreds of opportunities: NYC's website.
Federal Resources
There are a variety of federal resources for Job seekers. Anyone looking for career information should start at USA.Gov. Free resume assistance and job seeking advice is available at USAJOBS. The website also has a Veterans specific page USAJOBS-Veterans. There are also links to national Job Banks.
The US Department of Labor also has a Veterans section on its website that has information on legal issues and re-employment questions that specifically affect veteran job seekers.
