Summer's Edge (Freshmen)

Runs July 1st - August 16th (7-week program) and July 15th – August 15th (5-week program)

About the Program

The Summer's Edge program allows new incoming freshmen to get a jump start on their College career by taking a class the summer before officially enrolling at Hunter. The program helps free up your schedule in the upcoming semesters and gets you acclimated to campus. The program includes:

  • A class of your choice (pending availability)
  • Scholarship opportunities to help fund the course
  • On-campus social events to get to know your new classmates

When does it take place?

All Summer's Edge 2019 classes take place during Hunter College's summer session 2.

  • July 1 – August 16, 2019 (7-week program)
  • July 15 – August 15, 2019 (5-week program)

How much does it cost?

The total cost for one class is $825 for New York State residents and $1,680 for out-of-state residents.

Summer’s Edge participants may be eligible for federal financial aid, generous scholarship funding and other benefits.

How do I apply?

If you have already committed to attend Hunter College, fill out this form indicating the course(s) which interest you. We will confirm registration within one week of your application.

Course Information

What courses are offered?

Exploration in the Arts (HUM 201)
An experience-based class which includes attending performances in concert halls, visits to art galleries, and conversations with artist and leaders of arts organizations.

  • Tues/Wed/Thurs 3:10pm-5:50pm (7/15 - 8/15)
  • Tues/Thurs 12:00pm - 3:50pm (7/15 - 8/15) FULL

Classical Mythology (CLA 101)
Greek and Roman myth as represented in ancient art and literature, with emphasis on modern interpretations and theories.          

  • Tues/Thurs 12pm - 3:50pm (7/15 - 8/15)

Introduction: Computer Science (CSCI 127)
A technical introduction to computer science. Organization of hardware, software, information, and an introduction to programming. Fulfills GER 2/E requirements.

  • Tues/Thurs 12pm-3:00pm (7/1 - 8/15)* FULL
    *For the week of 7/1, class will not meet on Tuesday, 7/2 or Thursday, 7/4, but will instead meet on Wednesday, 7/10 and Wednesday, 7/17.

Intro to Sociology (SOC 101)
This is the required introductory level course for all students wishing to major in sociology and fulfills core and graduation requirements.

  • Tues/Thurs 12pm - 3:50pm (7/15 - 8/15)

Intro to Psychology (PSYCH 100)
An introduction to the problems, methods and concepts of psychology, covering a range of topics which characterize the discipline. This is the required introductory level course for all students wishing to major in psychology. This course will only count as an elective for Non-Psychology majors.

  • Tues/Thurs 8am - 11:50am (7/15 - 8/15) FULL

Introduction to Expository Writing (ENG 120)
This seven (7) week course is the required introductory level course for all incoming first year students and fulfills core and graduation requirements.

  • Monday through Thursday 9:50am - 11:27am (7/1 - 8/16) FULL
  • Monday through Thursday 11:40am - 1:17pm (7/1 - 8/16)
  • Monday through Thursday 1:30pm – 3:07pm (7/1 - 8/16)
