Summer's Edge (Freshmen)

Runs July 16th - August 16th (5 week program) and July 5th to August 16th (7 week program)

About the Program

Get a jump on your college degree through the Hunter College Summer’s Edge program – offering first year students the chance to take one 3 credit college course the summer before they begin their freshmen year.

All Summer’s Edge 2018 classes take place during Hunter College’s summer session 2 (July 16 - August 16, Five Week Session, July 5th - August 16, Seven Week Session). For a full listing of courses with brief descriptions see below.

Summer’s Edge participants may be eligible for federal financial aid, partial scholarship funding and other benefits. (All scholarship applicants must have submitted a complete, electronic FAFSA for academic year 2018-2019 www.fafsa.ed.gov)

Students who commit to attend Hunter will learn more about Summer’s Edge and other Hunter College programs through communications and events for incoming freshmen.

Course Information

Arts and Classics (July 16th - August 16th)

Experience the Arts in NYC! Get a head start on the best internships in film and media. These introductory courses will allow you to take advanced courses immediately during your Fall 2018 semester.

Course(s) Offered:

FILM 101 - Introduction to Cinema (Film): Pre-requisite to all upper level film courses. Section SF (afternoon only): Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 pm - 3:50 pm

ART HTR 111 - Introduction to History of Art: Pre-requisite to all upper Art History courses. Section SF1: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00pm - 3:50 pm

MUSHL 101 - 1000 Years of Listening Section SF1: Tuedays and Thursdays  8:00 am - 11:50 pm

CLA 101 - Classical Mythology Section SF: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12pm - 3:50 pm 


Social Sciences (July 16th - August 16th)

Begin to fulfill your Social Science requirements at Hunter this summer and give yourself the advantage of taking more advanced courses in the Fall.

Course(s) Offered:

Soc 101 - Intro to Sociology: This is the required introductory level course for all students wishing to major in sociology and fulfills core and graduation requirements.
Section SF1 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 pm - 3:50 pm 

Psych 100 - Intro to Psychology: This is the required introductory level course for all students wishing to major in psychology.

Section SF1 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 am - 11:50 am

Section SF2 Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00 pm - 3:50 pm

WGS 100 -Introduction to Women and Gender Studies Section SF1Tuesdays and Thursdays 12 pm - 3:50 pm

English 120 Introduction to Expository Writing (July 5th - August 16th, Seven (7) Week Session)

This seven (7) week course is the required introductory level course for all incoming first year students and fulfills core and graduation requirements.

Engl 120 - Intro to Expository Writing meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from July 5th to August 16th, scheduled section times below.

Section SF1 9:50 am - 11:27 am, Section SF2 11:40 am - 1:17 pm, Section SF3 1:30 pm - 3:07 pm
