Visiting Students

Students visiting from other institutions are welcome at Hunter College!  Come spend your summer on the Upper East Side. Commute from home or live on campus. Take a couple of courses, head to Central Park to study in the sun, visit Hunter’s very own art gallery or hit the nearby Museum Mile after class.

The application deadline has passed but complete applications will continue to be accepted on a space available basis until June 1 for Session 1 and July 17 for Session 2.  However, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure access to the best available courses and avoid late registration fees.  Click here for summer sessions schedule and tuition information.

Course Information

Hunter College offers a wealth of courses in the liberal arts and social sciences to Visiting Students.  Please note that courses in math and the sciences are typically not available to Visiting Students as the seats in these courses are usually occupied by Hunter College’s continuing students.  However, should you find a space in a math or science course for which you qualify, you are more than welcome to register for it.  Visiting Students use the Non-Degree Admission application to apply.  Ready to register?

Events and Activities

Hunter College offers a wide range of events and activities.  From renowned guest speakers to seminars and social events, Hunter College has as much to offer outside of the classroom as inside.  New York is in exciting place to be any time of year but summer is especially packed with incredible and often free events. Hunter College Facilities and Resources

The college’s facilities and resources are available to visiting students.  Visiting students may make use of the college’s wonderful libraries, free fitnesscenter that  that includes a cardio/weight room, pool, and aerobics classes; health services office; on campus art gallery, Starbucks and cafe.

Living on Campus

A little known fact about Hunter College – yes we have dorms!The Hunter College Residence Hall is located on the College's Brookdale Campus at 425 East 25th Street, New York, NY 10010 in Downtown Manhattan and has over 600 rooms.  The dorm is open to visiting students attending classes this summer.  If you are interested in living on campus this summer, click here.

How to Register: Students from Other CUNY Schools

Students from other CUNY colleges who wish to take a summer course at Hunter should follow the procedures established by the home college for taking courses on permit. Applications for e-permits will be available through the CUNY Portal.

How to Register: Non- CUNY Visiting Students (Undergraduate)

Step 1: Complete and submit the Undergraduate Non-Degree application
Non-CUNY Students interested in registering for undergraduate courses must complete an undergraduate non-degree application and pay a $65 application fee which is collected at the time of first registration. Click here for additional information on undergraduate non-degree admission.

Undergraduate Non-Degree Summer Session Application Deadline: April 1st
Applications received after the deadline will be considered based on a space available basis.

You can obtain this application by:

  • Downloading the Undergraduate Application (PDF)
  • Picking Up an Application at the Welcome Center:
    Stop by Hunter’s Welcome Center to pick up an application. Head to the Visitor’s Center in the West Lobby at 68th Street and Lexington Avenue to obtain a visitor’s pass. Then head to the Welcome Center which is located in the North Building on the first floor, Room 100 and is open from 9AM to 5PM Monday to Thursday and 10AM to 4PM on Fridays. Applications are also available outside of the office, so you can stop by at your convenience.

Step 2: View the Schedule of Classes
Check the schedule of classes for Summer sessions I and II on the Registrar's website.

Step 3: Check your email for important information from the Office of Admissions.
After completing and returning the application, students will be e-mailed registration and enrollment information from the Office of Admissions.

Important Note:  All formal communications are sent via email.  Please make sure to monitor your email closely for important updates and information.

Step 4: Register!
Registration for undergraduate non-degree students begins on March 11. Registration for courses at Hunter College is done through the CUNY Portal. As previously mentioned, you will receive instructions and updates via email from the Office of Admissions. You can also find detailed instructions about how to register through the Portal here.

How to Register: Non-CUNY Students (Graduate)

Step 1: Complete an Application
Non-CUNY Students interested in registering for graduate courses must complete an application for graduate non-matriculated admission and pay a $125 application fee which is collected at the time of first registration. Graduate Non-Matriculated Summer Session Application Deadline: April 15th
Applications received after the deadline will be considered based on space availability.

Step 3: Review and Notification.
If your application and the supporting proof of BA degree conferral are acceptable, registration materials will be sent by postal mail with further instructions about two weeks prior to the start of registration.

Step 4: Register!
Registration for graduate non-matriculated students begins on May 11. Registration for courses at Hunter College is done through the CUNY Portal.
