QuERI is Relocating to Hunter

The Queering Education Research Institute© (QuERI) will be relocating Fall 2014 for two years to Hunter College, CUNY, in New York City and will be part of the LGBT Social Science and Public Policy Center at Roosevelt House.

QuERI is an independent think-tank, qualitative research and training center dedicated to bridging the gap between research and practice in improving the school experiences of LGBTQ students. QuERI began in 2006 with the Reduction of Stigma in Schools (RSIS) program—a research-based professional development program aimed at supporting educators in creating more affirming school environments for LGBTQ students and families. It expanded in 2009 to become a research and policy institute. QuERI was founded by Dr. Elizabethe Payne and housed in the Syracuse University School of Education from 2006-2014. Dr. Payne brings QuERI with her as she relocates to Hunter College.

This move will allow for continued data collection in QuERI’s on-going state-wide research study on the implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act, New York’s LGBT inclusive anti-harassment law, and to continue to work toward effective legislation and policy in support of LGBT students and families in New York schools.

For more information about the research and applied work of QuERI, please see the website. QuERI can also be found on Huffington Post, Facebook, and Twitter. We will be in transition throughout the fall and hope to be settled at Hunter by December.
