In 2014, the Queering Education Research Institute© (QuERI) relocated to Hunter College, CUNY, in New York City and is housed in the LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center at Hunter’s Roosevelt House.

QuERI is an independent think-tank, qualitative research and training center dedicated to bridging the gap between research and practice in improving the K-12 school experiences of LGBTQ students and families.  QuERI began in 2006 with the Reduction of Stigma in Schools (RSIS) program—a research-based professional development program for in-service educators. It expanded in 2009 to become a research and policy institute. QuERI was founded by Dr. Elizabethe Payne and housed in the Syracuse University School of Education from 2006-2014.  Dr. Payne brought QuERI with her as she relocated to Hunter College to direct the re-launch of the LGBT Social Science and Public Policy Center.

This move has allowed for continued data collection in QuERI’s on-going state-wide research on the implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act, New York’s LGBT inclusive anti-harassment law, and to continue to work toward effective legislation and policy in support of LGBT students and families in New York schools.

For more information about the research and applied work of QuERI, please see the website, QuERI can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, Huffington Post, and Academia.
