LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center

The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College stands at the vanguard of educating students in human rights, supporting faculty research, and fostering creative dialogue.

As part of Roosevelt House, the LGBT Social Science and Public Policy Center is also committed to these goals through the advancement of LGBT social science, education, and public policy.

Stonewall Inn"All of us are created equal - is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our
forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall" President Obama, 2013 Inauguration Speech

On June 28, 1969, a group of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals evidenced such a vision of equality in New York City's Greenwich Village neighborhood. The Stonewall riots are often credited as a defining event sparking the national LGBT human rights movement. Many of the advances in LGBT public policy, social science, and research can be directly traced to New York organizations, institutions, and community leaders that ensued Stonewall.
