The goals of the LGBT Center are to foster LGBT social science and research, influence and inform public policy, and to develop and support LGBT education and training for Hunter College students. Dr. Jeffrey Parsons and a 17 member Steering Committee composed of diverse Hunter College faculty, representatives from administration and staff, as well as a student advisory committee started the LGBT Center. Currently, the LGBT Center is an interdisciplinary organization comprised of an Executive Committee and a Core Advisory Committee with community as well as Hunter College faculty, staff, and student members.
