Required Crew Assignments (RCA)
Theatre majors must complete two non-credited crew assignments in support of departmental production activity. An RCA is comparable to a three-credit class, so it takes a minimum of about 40 hours of crew work to complete a single RCA. Many RCA assignments are more than that--for example, a light or sound board operator will work about 70 hours, and a stage manager will probably work 90 hours or more.
There are two types of RCAs-- (1) pre-production and (2) production.
Pre-production assignments are typically in the scene shop, costume shop, or on the electrics crew (or may be a combination of these). Additional areas include props, scenic painting, sound/video, and graphics. You will be trained and supervised by our departmental faculty and staff.
Production assignments are typically as a member of the stage management team, backstage running crew, board operators, and ushers on faculty-directed shows in the Loewe, or on other activities determined by the Production Manager. If you are assigned to a production RCA you must attend/work every technical rehearsal and performance. You will be trained and supervised by our departmental faculty and staff.
To apply, email the Production Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your name, phone number, email address, area of interest, and your schedule of FREE TIME every day between 11am and 11pm as early in the semester as possible.
