"MINING THE SELF: WRITING PERSONAL HISTORY" DAPHNE MERKIN is an American literary critic, essayist, and novelist, best known for her 1997 essay Dreaming of Hitler and her 2014 novel The Fame Lunches. Merkin has won the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for best novel on a Jewish theme, and her most recent book, This Close To Happy: A Reckoning With Depression has been featured on the New York Times Notable Book of the Year and was chosen as the New York Times Book Review Favorite Read of 2016.
