Services Offered by the TLC
Workshops &
Events are scheduled throughout the academic year on a
variety of topics of interest to faculty. New faculty and adjunct
workshops are scheduled in August and January.
Research about teaching and
learning at the College are sponsored by the Center, in order to promote
the college's engagement with the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Conference Support is provided
to a limited number of individuals to attend conferences relating
to teaching and learning in higher education.
Mentoring relationships are
set up by the Center between members of the faculty. The goal of such
mentoring is to provide faculty with opportunities to think throughout
their teaching practices outside of the constraints of regularly scheduled
teaching evaluation.
Consultations are provided to individual faculty members about issues
that arise in their teaching practices, as well as to departments
and to groups of faculty who face a common issue.
Clearinghouse & Resource Center offers to serve as a clearinghouse
for faculty interested in particular pedagogical questions or issues
and a TLC Resource Library is available.
SOME PRIMARY INTERESTS
Language Diversity Initiative began as a Fipse project, to encourage
faculty to take advantage of students' language skills in their classes.
The Center Supports the ongoing activities of the Language Diversity
Initiative. (see the LDI REPORT)
The TLC works closely with the Technology Resource Center in showcasing
and helping faculty implement innovative uses of technology in the
classroom.
Understanding First Generation College Students' Needs is a cause
for which The Center requires funding. Our goal is to improve the
ways that the College socializes first generation college students
into the values and practices of academic life.
