Using ePortfolios to enhance students' cultural and linguistic awareness
Lisa Anderson and Aine Zimmerman will demonstrate how ePortfolios can help to develop students¹ cultural and linguistic awareness. We will discuss:

  • how ePortfolios can prompt students to reflect on the language they encounter and use, and to articulate the challenges they face in the learning process.
  • how including revision and reflection in e-portfolios enables students to track both their progress and their changing perceptions.
  • how multimedia reflections and event creation in the ePortfolio can engage students in ways that paper portfolios do not.

We'll see how they use audience-response systems, peer-review web sites (SWORD), and Survey Monkey to assess students' writing, presentations, and group projects.  Presenters will also discuss how peer review provides students with additional information for self- evaluations.
