Extending the classroom with discussion boards, blogs, and journals
| Angelo Angelis (History) |
Judith Aponte (Nursing) |
September 17, 2009
Blogs and discussion boards can both be used to extend conversation beyond the physical classroom. In this session Judith Aponte and Angelo Angelis discussed why they chose the tool they did for their particular pedagogical purpose. Judith Aponte used group discussion boards in a large class (~50 students) to support small group discussions about case studies and scenarios. A second, class-wide discussion board was used to allow group leaders to summarize group discussions and post comments. Angelo Angelis asked students to respond to a series of questions around a single theme (the changing meaning of American freedom) using private blogs, visible only to him and the author.
