Online synchronous tools, such as Adobe Connect, Skype, and iChat, enable instructors and students to communicate in real time without the need to be in the same physical location. In this session, three Hunter faculty members discussed how they have used these synchronous tools in their classes and work. Roberta Kilkenny talked about how she has used Adobe Connect in a course on international relations and economic development. Her goals are to facilitate communication with international guest speakers, to hold virtual office hours for an evening class, and to provide a way for the class to meet even if it is unable to meet in person. Jack Caravanos demonstrated how Skype can be used with guest presenters by giving his presentation via Skype. Ellen Trief described how using Adobe Connect has enabled her to include teachers of the blind and mobility impaired who live in rural areas in her classes.
