Teaching large intro classes: The Psych 100 model
| Sarit Golub, Jeffrey Parsons, Virginia Valian, H. Philip Zeigler (Psychology) |
March 18, 2010
Professors Sarit Golub, Jeffrey Parsons, Virginia Valian, H. Philip Zeigler have been team teaching a large introduction to Psychology class of 500-800 students. At this week's Tech Thursday, they spoke about insights gained from their experience during the past two semesters. The team teaching format allows each faculty member to teach to their strength and area of specialization. The students benefit from getting different perspectives on a topic and exposure to four full-time faculty members who are active researchers in their fields and four teaching styles. The class uses clickers to take attendance, get student feedback, demonstrate psychology experiments, and administer quizzes.
