  • What is Hunter's total population?
In Fall 2011 there were over 20,000 students registered at Hunter. Over 16,500 of those students are undergraduates.

  • How can I find additional Hunter College statistics?
The Office of Institutional Research provides in depth analysis of our student population.

  • Where is Hunter located? What's the neighborhood like?
Hunter is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, one of New York's most attractive residential neighborhoods. The campus is near many museums and only two blocks away from Central Park.

  • What is the overall cost of attending Hunter College?
The overall cost of an undergraduate degree is approximately $25,000 plus the cost of books and college fees.

  • How do I obtain a copy of my child's grades?
The college is prohibited from releasing certain information to parents without the permission of the student, grades included. By federal law (The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, FERPA, also known as the Buckley Amendment), students over the age of 18 are considered responsible adults and are allowed to determine who will receive information about them.

  • What is the FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used to determine eligibility for federal and state student grants, work study and loans. The information on the FAFSA is used to determine the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is used by the school to determine the student's financial aid award.

  • Do students need a computer on campus?
There are a number of computers available to students in our student computer labs. Laptops are not necessary but again, some students find them useful.

  • When is the best time to start looking at colleges?
The ideal starting time is winter of junior year. This is close enough to application time so that your child will have enough maturity to begin thinking about the future, but early enough to make choices that will positively impact his acceptability to colleges.
