Admissions-NUTR RD track
The following undergraduate course prerequisites, or their equivalent, with an earned grade of B or above, are required before acceptance into the program leading to the MPH and eligibility to sit for the registration exam in order to become credentialed as a registered dietitian (RD).
These prerequisites adhere to the ADA requirements for those wishing to pursue the path to become an RD and/or recognized in New York State as a certified dietitian/nutritionist (CDN).
* Introductory food science (1 semester)
* Introductory nutrition (1 semester)
* Anatomy and physiology with lab (2 semesters)
* Microbiology with lab (1 semester)
* General chemistry with lab (1 semester)
* Organic chemistry with lab (1 semester)
* Nutritional biochemistry (1 semester)
* Statistics course (1 semester, graduate or undergraduate)
* At least one year of work or experience related to nutrition, public health, social services or community organization
Once admitted to the program the student will need to successfully complete the following undergraduate and graduate courses:
NFS 330 Food Science II Lab
NFS 331 Food Science II
NFS 335 Institutional Management
NFS 341 Advanced Nutrition I
NFS 343 Medical Nutrition Therapy I
NFS 435 Food Service Systems
NFS 442 Medical Nutrition Therapy II
NFS 445 Advanced Nutrition II Laboratory
PH 700: Biostatistics
NUTR 710: Public Health Nutrition
NUTR 720 Nutrition in Health Promotion & Disease Prevention
NUTR 733: Nutrition Throughout the Lifecycle
NUTR 700-703: The Hunter College Dietetic Internship
After completion of all of the above, the student is eligible to sit for the Registration Exam to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).
The following courses are necessary to complete the MPH in Public Health Nutrition:
PH 701, PH 702, PH 703, PH 710, PH 740, COMHE 750, and NUTR 737.2.
