Field Placement Information
All majors complete three courses of fieldwork: COMHE 401 (210 hours), COMHE 402 (105 hours) and COMHE 403 (150 hours). The program has affiliations with health agencies in the metropolitan region and with several agencies in other countries. Some field placements are available on evenings and weekend
The COMHE Undergraduate Fieldwork Coordinator is Megha Ramaswamy. The coordinator may assist in locating an appropriate fieldwork opportunity, or the student may design his or her own fieldwork if it conforms to the fieldwork requirements. Fieldwork opportunities are also announced via the UPH comhe-l listserv (see UPH homepage).
The major requirement of fieldwork is to complete the 465 hours of work experience in the field. But there are several other documents/activities that must be turned in/completed in order to get grades for each course. There is a breakdown of these documents/activities as they correspond to grading in the syllabus. A link to the syllabus can be found below.
There is no formal course that accompanies the fieldwork experience. However, students are required to attend mandatory meetings throughout the semester (3 in the summer; 4 in fall and spring). The meeting dates/rooms will be posted through the comhe-l listserv, in Blackboard, and outside the UPH office.
All questions regarding field placements should be referred to Megha Ramaswamy, Undergraduate Fieldwork Coordinator, Hunter College, 425 East 25th Street, New York, NY 10010, Room 710W, 212-481-4433, mramaswa@hunter.cuny.edu.
