2. DEBATE was an article in USA today in Dec. 2001 about how to lessen the teacher shortage
3. HANDBOOK for accreditation in pdf format, you should be receiving your own copy shortly
4. HART_TEETER is an article by Arthur Wise about teacher quality.
5. M_NCATE_RE links you directly to a variety of NCATE web sites if you are on-line when you click on it.
6. NEWS RELEASE tells how NCATE status is now being used by US news and World Report in college rankings.
7. PROGRAM_REVIEW_TIMELINE tells when specialty association standards were first adopted, when revised, and when they are due for review.
8. ROTHSTEIN is an article that appeared in the New York Times by Richard Rothstein about what he saw when he was allowed to go on an accreditation visit with a BOE team.
9. SPEAKERS GUIDE is just that—NCATE tips and talking points for you to use when you are asked to speak about accreditation or other issues facing teacher education.
10. STAFF LIST is a list of names, positions, and e-mail addresses for NCATE staff.
11. TEN STEP is an article in Education Week about how to boost scores in low-performing urban schools, written by Arthur Wise and Marcia Levine
12. TITLE2 discusses federal Title 2 which requires the reporting of teacher graduates’ test scores on state licensing tests.  It also discusses the implications of those scores in terms of teacher quality.
13. UNIT_STNDS are the NCATE standards for 2002.  You will have your own bound, paper copy.

PRESENTATIONS FOLDER:  (Any folder not listed here but found on the CD is empty except for the presenter's bio)

• BLANCHARD contains a powerpoint presentation on performance assessment entitled Issues in Assessment Systems by Loren Blanchard and David Smith.  Well worth a look!!!
• DOTTIN has a nice presentation on the conceptual framework and how to build it.  It lays out the relationships between vision, mission, aims, outcomes, etc.
• EDWARDS has a great explanation of how the program standards align with the assessment system.  It’s worth reviewing.
• EHRENBERG is all about the preconditions.  We’re past this point.
• ELLIOTT is about program reviews and how to move toward performance based programs.  It’s worth looking at when in the midst of constructing a rejoinder.
• EVANS presents the electronic portfolio system used at Western Kentucky University.  Click here to find a backward map, scoring guide, and prompt and scoring rubric.  VERY INTERESTING!
• LEIBBRAND has a pdf article about being on the Board of Examiners (BOE) for NCATE
• RASCH’s powerpoint addresses linking the conceptual framework to the assessment system.  Good to Review!
• SMITH is essential for creating a teacher education assessment system.  He has an assessment presentation and data exhibit presentation in powerpoint.  Then his excel document is his guide to an assessment system that will give us the kind of data we need.  It’s call TEAS-- Teacher Education Assessment System.  For those who care about an assessment system and NOT just a collection of artifacts, Smith’s stuff should be the first things you look at—along with the Blanchard folder.
• STEFFENS has three powerpoint presentations: one on experiencing a visit, electronic alternatives to the exhibit room, and the role of the NCATE coordinator.  This is the woman who presented the ten ways you know when you’ve been the NCATE coordinator too long that I adapted for our purposes.  But she didn’t put it on here (I had to make them up—but she was inspiring).
• WILLIAMS gives a good overview of NCATE and the standards.  She also has a presentation that is called sticking points.  It’s worth a look because it points to areas of weakness across institutional reports and visits.  Kind of gives us a heads up about what to focus on in some depth.
• PRESENTER ADD LIST gives the addresses and contact numbers to reach any of the people whose presentations are included on the CD.
