The diversity and quality of the students at Hunter College is well known. This diversity enriches every class in the Dance Program. In this section you can learn more about out student clubs and meet our students managers.

 

ALL Dance Club events meet in the Dance Program Studios on the 6th or 7th Floor of Thomas Hunter Hall (unless noted otherwise).
Funding for these clubs is through Undergraduate Student Government and Student Activity Fee Fund for the Performing Arts.
All clubs are FREE, do not require any previous dance experience, and are open to the entire Hunter College Community.

Dance Speaks Out: Since dance allows individuals to communicate through movement, this club aims to deepen the understanding of this artistic form. This club will introduce and explore a variety of forms and aspects of dance through guest lectures and classes.

Diversity Through Dance: Provides workshops and classes that are outside of Western Theatrical Dance Forms. Promotion of these dance forms is culminated at the end of the Spring Semester, when this club holds a week intensive. During this intensive both guests artists and current students present lectures and performances. All presentations are free, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Jazz Dance Club: Will explore various styles and techniques of Jazz Dance, through lectures, videos and classes. Participtants will develop a better understanding of technical vocabulary, musicality, historical and cultural significance of this dance form.

Join us for Hip Hop Master Class, Friday‘s (Oct. 19th & Oct. 26th) from 5:15PM-6:45PM

Modern Dance Club: Has been in existence since 1963. The oldest of the dance clubs is still strong. Through this club the Hunter College Dance Company came into existence and continues to help increase awareness of Modern Dance and its importance as an artistic form.

Current classes will meet on Tuesday’s (Oct. 30th & Nov. 6th) from 5:00PM-6:30PM

Pilates Club: Proximal, Integrating, Latent, Agile, Toning, Exercise, System.
Pilates is a series of non-impact exercises designed by Joseph Pilates to develop strength, flexibility, balance, and inner awareness.
All are welcome to attend our Fall 2007 Semester workshops.
Monday’s (Sep. 24th
– Nov. 7th) from 4:30PM-5:30PM
Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 8:15AM-9:15AM
Additional Dates: Wed. Oct. 31
st from 5:00PM-6:00PM and Thur. Nov. 8th from 4:00PM-5:00PM

Social Dance Club: For people who want to learn more about various types of Ballroom Dancing; this club provides the opportunity to try partnering in a friendly and comfortable environment. Participants will gain knowledge on the social and technical tools necessary to try ballroom dancing at venues outside of Hunter College.

West African Dance Club: This club meets every Friday from 5:00PM-7:00PM with Instructor Jacqueline Gaffney. Come learn West African Dance (as well as Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Haitian and Afro-Brazilian) steps accompanied by live percussive drums. Club is open all members of the community of all levels. Class meets on Friday’s from 5:00PM-7:00PM
