Shafer Mahoney’s music
has been performed around the world and at Carnegie
Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, and Miller Theatre;
it has won numerous awards, including two from BMI,
a Morton Gould Award from ASCAP, and the Bearns Prize
from Columbia University. Critics have described his
music as “tonal and imaginative” and “dazzling.”
Recent commissions include works for the Nouvel Ensemble
Moderne, Albany Symphony Orchestra, New York Youth
Symphony, Oklahoma State University, Brooklyn Youth
Chorus, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Relâche,
Columbus State University, and the Corigliano String
Quartet. His music is published by Boosey & Hawkes
and has been recorded on Enja, Mark, and Summit Records.
Last year, Absolute Ensemble’s recording of
his music was nominated for a Grammy Award in the
category “Best Small Ensemble Performance.”
