Course in seminar/workshop format concentrating
on the literature for solo voice, both classical

popular (musical theater, jazz, gospel); but also
including ensemble repertory from opera and musical
theater. Singers are coached in performance technique
and interpretation, while working with an accompanist
to prepare the semester’s repertoire. May
be taken 6 times. Students must be concurrently
taking individual lessons in voice.

work on a project of the student’s choice under
the guidance of an approved supervisor who will provide
the course grade. Proposals for projects must be
submitted to the policy committee of the Music Department
by the twelfth week of the preceding semester. Permission
to enroll in the course is conditional on approval
of the proposal by the committee. 1-3 cr. per sem.
