Alta Mercedes

My name is Alta Mercedes and I've been working at Hunter College in different capacities since 2001. I was a Site Supervisor of the Student Center, then a Career Counselor in the Career Development Office, and since 2007 an Academic Advisor For Students in Transition. I received my MSEd from Hunter in School Counseling and also hold a License in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC). I love my career because it allows me to work closely with students via New Student Orientations. I assist students in making the transition from High School to College a smoother one. I also enjoy working with department advisors to provide students with the resources needed to declare their major.  In my personal time, I sometimes work on community projects including toy drives, organizing social events, and visiting the sick. I also like to spend quality time with  family -- traveling to different places, especially cruises to the Caribbean, and backyard BBQ's.
