Open Space Matters

Urban  open space is not only being lost to development, it is also slowly disappearing thanks to the ever-present and sometimes thoughtless urge to pave the city.  As a result, we lose green space or the possibility of affordably greening open space and the significant environmental benefits along with it--including improved air quality, urban heat island mitigation and cleaner water.  While the Green Infrastructure plan shows that the city is taking significant steps to reduce the number and severity of combined sewer overflow events, even more can be done to prevent the unnecessary installation of hardscape in the city and incentivize its removal.
