The Hypothesis team will share how teachers are using annotation-powered reading to help students read longer and more deeply. In addition to sharing pedagogical best practices for social annotation, we will demonstrate how Hypothesis is used with course readings in D2L Brightspace, including how to set up annotation assignments.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to start incorporating social annotation into their courses to improve student outcomes. These sessions are great introductions to using Hypothesis and social annotation in your courses.

It includes anchors for items that should be included in any course such as an orientation module, a student help module and a faculty help module with links to resources. It also contains elements that are particularly important for hybrid and online courses such as netiquette guidelines for synchronous and asynchronous communication and student feedback surveys. It includes anchors for items that should be included in any course such as an orientation module, a student help module and a faculty help module with links to resources. It also contains elements that are particularly important for hybrid and online courses such as netiquette guidelines for synchronous and asynchronous communication and student feedback surveys. Professors can use this template as a starting point for creating their courses, decide what parts to use and edit the recommended activities and content. Join us for a half-hour workshop on what is in the course template and how to use it.

Use Ally to Improve Accessibility of Course Materials on Brightspace

Ally, a tool integrated into Brightspace, is designed to help professors improve the accessibility of online course content by flagging content that is not accessible and suggesting ways to make it accessible. In this workshop, we will go over how to use Ally’s accessibility rating system to optimize your course content for accessibility, with a focus on how to remediate content that Ally rates poorly for accessibility. We will also discuss Ally’s student-facing features, including the ability to transcode your course content to different formats, such as HTML, braille, and audio.
