Hunter Mourns the Loss of Former President Jacqueline Grennan Wexler

Message from President Jennifer J. Raab

The Hunter College community is profoundly saddened by the loss of our former president and inspiring mentor. A visionary leader, during her nine-year tenure she oversaw the transfer of the Bellevue School of Nursing to Hunter and helped launch the Brookdale Center on Aging, the Schools of Health Science, the Women's Studies program, and many other initiatives that have had a lasting impact at the College. A superb negotiator and diplomat, Wexler skillfully guided Hunter through New York City's financial crisis in the '70s. Her indomitable spirit lives on at Hunter. We are proud to have a Wexler still grace our halls, Jacqueline's grandson, David, Hunter College student. Our deepest condolences to Paul, Wendy, Wayne and the entire family.

Her funeral and burial will be in Rock Falls, IL on Saturday, January 28. For those interested in sending notes of sympathy to the family, please send them to Wayne Wexler, 69-28 52nd Drive, Maspeth, NY 11378. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Jacqueline Grennan Wexler Fund, c/o The Hunter College Foundation, 695 Park Avenue, Room E1313, New York, NY 10065.
