The Whitney Biennial is an eagerly awaited survey of the best and most exciting contemporary art. Among the artists this year: Hunter Professor Carrie Moyer, whose work can be viewed on the fifth floor of the new Whitney in the Meatpacking District.

New York Times critic Roberta Smith describes Moyer’s “bravura abstracts,” as “among her best.”

And Josephine Livingstone of The New Republic writes: “They contain large shapes that do not seem quite made by human hand. The shapes seem born of themselves, or from some other dimension.”

The Biennial runs through June 11 at the Whitney Museum, 99 Gansevoort in lower Manhattan.
