Aphasia Group

The Hunter College Aphasia Group supports the communicative needs of those who have aphasia and other neurologically involved disorders. Attendance and membership in the group are free; the two hour meetings are held twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during the academic year. The following shows the schedule for Aphasia Group:

  • Fall semester: 2-4 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing the 3rd Tuesday in September and ending the 3rd Thursday of December
  • Spring semester: 2-4 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing the first Tuesday of February and ending the third Thursday of May
  • Summer semester: 2-4 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing the first Tuesday of June and ending the last Thursday of July
  • There are no meetings during the month of August or the month of January, or when the college is closed for a holiday or break

 

The group format involves social interaction to improve communication of individuals with aphasia or other neurological disorders. The group is supervised by a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, with students enrolled in the master's of science program in speech-language pathology.
