Study Abroad Passport Grant

To encourage diverse participation in study abroad, which serves as a catalyst for personal and intellectual growth, Hunter College's Education Abroad Office and the Office Student Success and Strategic Initiatives would like to offer a grant intended to support the cost of passport fees for Hunter undergraduate students who would like to study abroad.
The grant would cover up to $145.00, an amount intended to equal the application and processing cost for a United States Passport to 20 students who intend to study abroad and are applying for a passport for the first time. First come, first serve basis. Priority to students who have already applied to a program.
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be demonstrate intent to study overseas for credit while enrolled as an undergraduate at Hunter. Applications for passport renewals do not qualify.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify for this scholarship you must:
- be enrolled as a full-time, matriculated undergraduate student at Hunter College at the time of application. Your first semester as a matriculated undergraduate student must be spring 2019 or fall 2019.
- be a U.S. citizen.
- never have had or applied for a U.S. passport.
- intend to enroll as a full-time student on a study abroad program as a Hunter undergraduate.
- apply for a passport between February 1, 2019 and December 30, 2019.
PROCEDURES
To apply for the study abroad grant, you must:
- Complete the attached application and submit it to Education Abroad.
- Apply for a U.S. passport. Note that for new passports, you will need to apply in person at a passport acceptance agency or attend Hunter's Passport Day on campus on March 7th
- Obtain from the passport agent a dated receipt(s) showing the amount(s) paid for both the application fee ($110.00) and processing fee ($35.00). A cancelled check(s) showing both sides of the check(s) may be accepted as proof of payment in lieu of receipts. Other types of forms are not acceptable. It is your responsibility to provide proper documentation. Make sure you keep copies for your records.
- Register for a Study Abroad Advising and Study Abroad Information Session before or upon submitting your grant application.
Students who are awarded the grant will receive reimbursement in the amount of up to $145.00 within 4 - 6 weeks of completing the application process.
