Welcome to the Office of Education Abroad at Hunter College

The Hunter Office of Education Abroad is here to support international education opportunities for students by providing access to quality study abroad opportunities that engage students with the local environment through coursework, internships, community service and experiential learning opportunities.

We manage study abroad opportunities granting academic credit towards graduation for students from any major.  We administer a portfolio of 43 Hunter-administered semester, winter, and summer study abroad programs directly, some involving Hunter faculty, and liaise with international universities and providers for over 300 external programs approved for transfer credit.

Visit our website to find programs, scholarship and financial aid information, applications and procedures, course credit transfers, and all other information relevant to prepare you for your abroad experience.

Our FAQ page is a great place to start!

Spring 2022 applications are available on a limited basis based on CUNY guidelines for International Travel. University Exchanges will open for fall 2022 in the spring  Summer 2022 applications will open in the spring.

Please keep in mind, all students applying to study abroad, whether through a Hunter, CUNY, affiliated (SUNY, USAC, CIEE, IES etc.) or non-affiliated program, MUST apply to the Office of Education Abroad first for approval, and then may proceed with their selected program application. Because students earn transfer credit and can apply those credits towards the fulfillment of their degree requirements including major, minor, and most general education requirements, the Education Abroad office at Hunter must approve your study abroad program BEFORE you apply to the program.

All courses taken abroad need academic department approvals in order for students to receive credit towards their Hunter degree. All details on the process can be found on our APPLY page, based on the type of program you are applying for.

Take time to watch the Planning to Study Abroad video (5-7 minutes) and learn about the application process, where, and how to study abroad!
