Roosevelt House is honored to present New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch in a timely and important conversation with former congresswoman, the Eleanor Roosevelt Distinguished Leader in Residence at Roosevelt House, Carolyn B. Maloney. Please join us for this special event as Commissioner Tisch discusses her work to improve public safety in New York—and the path forward to creating a better, safer city for all New Yorkers.
This lecture series honors the memory of Hunter Professor Dora Askowith, a professor of history, religion, culture, Jewish studies, and women’s studies at Hunter College from 1912-1957.
The “Little Aunt Dora” Public Lecture Series is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Dora Askowith by her family, initiated by her great-niece Patti Askwith Kenner.

Jessica Tisch Police Commissioner of the City of New York
Jessica Tisch was appointed the 48th police commissioner of the City of New York in November 2024. Tisch previously served as commissioner of both the New York City Department of Sanitation and the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT). Prior to joining DoITT, Tisch spent the majority of her career at the New York City Police Department, beginning her career there in 2008 as a counterterrorism analyst. Tisch eventually rose to become deputy commissioner of the Information Technology Bureau, where she oversaw the 911 dispatch and response system, managed the development and implementation of the flagship Domain Awareness System, managed the implementation of the NYPD’s body-worn camera program, modernized CompStat, and equipped every officer with a smartphone. Commissioner Tisch is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School, and is a lifelong New Yorker.Hon. Carolyn B. Hon. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Eleanor Roosevelt Distinguished Leader in Residence at Roosevelt House, represented the Upper East Side of Manhattan (and parts of Queens and Brooklyn) in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years. Maloney was the first woman to represent her Congressional and City Council districts, and Chair the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and the Joint Economic Committee. She authored and passed more than 81 landmark measures, including the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, the Postal Service Reform Act, the Credit CARD Act, and a bill to create the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.- Roosevelt House
