"Trouble in Mind"
By Alice Childress
Directed by Adrienne D. Williams
Set in 1957, "Trouble in Mind" tells the story of Wiletta Mayer, a Black actress who has achieved some success and is about to make her Broadway debut in the play "Chaos in Bellville." When her director, Al Manners, pushes her to dive deeply into the emotional life of her character, she comes face-to-face with racial inequality in the theater. As Wiletta reaches her breaking point, the fate of the show hangs in the balance.
