Hunter Gifted Center Mission and Goals

The Hunter College Center for Gifted Education serves to support the larger context of Hunter College's 2012-2020 strategic plan of scholarship, research, and creative activity through its various initiatives and efforts. The Center's breadth of activity serves as a vehicle for supporting gifted learners, their families, their educators and the systems undergirding their growth. The mission of the Hunter College Center for Gifted Education is to empower multiple gifted communities through exemplary leadership in teaching, research, advocacy and service.

Goals

  • Provide Hunter College graduate education advanced certificate courses and opportunities for individuals interested in teaching gifted students and/or assuming administrative and leadership positions in the field of gifted education.
  • Conduct research and evaluation for publications and dissemination of scholarship to relevant audiences and for data-based decision making which contribute to the field of gifted education.
  • Serve as a major “Go-To” resource Center in Gifted Education in NYC for its research, training, and service.
  • Build a strong, productive collaboration with New York City Department of Education and the network of highly selective schools and personnel involved in gifted education through convening events and personnel.
  • Facilitate systemic models which promote services, serve as a community resource, raise the profile of gifted education issues, and build collaborative partnerships within and outside Hunter in order to complement and advance the mission and research of Hunter Campus Schools and Hunter College.
