Curriculum Review and Approval

The Senate approves all Hunter College curriculum before it goes to CUNY or the State for final approval. Below we have listed resources and schedules for submitting curriculum proposals. You may contact the Senate Office if you have questions in regards to the information provided on this page or in regards to developing a proposal. Note that the Senate Office may be able to provide sample proposals.

Curriculum Changes

Curriculum changes are reviewed by CUNY in two separate reports. The CEP Report (formally known as the Committee on Academic Program, Policy, and Research [CAPPR]) will contain all curriculum items requiring State approval (all new degree programs and some changes in degree programs), additions to the CUNY Common Core (Hunter's General Education requirements), and changes to academic policy. The CEP report must be approved by the CUNY Committee on Educational Policy and the CUNY Board of Trustees before items are sent for State approval. Curriculum changes not included in the CEP report (new courses, changes in courses, new minors, changes in degree programs not requiring State approval, etc.), will be part of a separate report, the Academic University Report (AUR), which will only require approval by the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs.

Hunter's review and approval steps (department, school, and Senate) remains the same. All curriculum requires approval by Hunter governance and CUNY before it can be implemented.
