The Five Pillars of CUNY Beyond
Early on, current and prospective students will explore and identify careers aligned with their interests and make informed decisions on career aspirations.
What is our approach?:
1. Expanding the availability of on-demand student tools for exploring career paths and labor market data.
2. Refining and developing additional College Now courses to fill in the gaps of in-demand career paths.
3. Integrating career information into first-year seminars.
Students receive meaningful integrated academic and career advising that helps them understand career goals and the pathways to get there.
What is our approach?:
1. Increasing the number of career-infused degree maps that add professional milestones to the traditional list of courses required to obtain a degree.
2. Hiring Integrated Academic & Career Advisors to be embedded within academic departments, starting with high-demand disciplines.
Students have access to relevant career-connected learning that allows them to acquire skills necessary for career success.
What is our approach?:
1. Integrating best practices into campus-based faculty training.
2. Identifying new courses to be taught by industry adjuncts in in-demand sectors through Practitioners in Residence Corps.
Students gain early career experience and demonstrate proficiency through paid internships and apprenticeships that are fully integrated into degree paths.
What is our approach?:
1. Proactively connecting students to CUNY-wide paid internship programs, with a focus on those that serve students early.
2. Boosting enrollment in and the number of work-based learning courses for credit.
Students connect to a strong first job through robust sector-specific employer engagement on campus.
What is our approach?:
1. Creating regular opportunities for employers to contribute to curricula and learning tools.
2. Hiring Industry Specialists to source paid full-time job opportunities.
