About the JFEW Scholars Program
"Are you passionate about social justice? Are you looking for a community of like-minded students? Join us to make a difference!"
The JFEW Scholars Program is a two-year scholarship program designed for students pursuing careers in public service, nonprofit organizations, public interest journalism, or documentary filmmaking –– and passionate about supporting women’s advancement in these fields. Upon acceptance, scholars receive tuition assistance, mentorship, a paid summer internship in New York, educational and service-based day trips in the five boroughs of NYC, dedicated workshops, and invitations to special events at Hunter College.
Past events have included:
- A workshop with Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher on paths to public service
- A screening of the documentary Changing Lanes, followed by a panel discussion and private lunch with the filmmaker and featured street safety activists
- A tree maintenance and bulb-planting service day on McGuinness Boulevard led by organizers of Make McGuinness Safe and the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance
- A private tour of the Tenement Museum’s “Women of the Tenements’ exhibition on immigrant women activists
