Here’s a chance to join an elite cohort of nurse practitioners at the forefront of community healthcare in New York City.

Starting December 15, the Evelyn Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing is accepting applications for its 2026–27 cohort.

The program was started in 2022 by the late philanthropist Leonard A. Lauder in honor of his late wife Evelyn Hausner Lauder HCHS ’54, HC ’58, DHL’04. It offers advanced clinical training and graduate-level education focused on the critical aspects of care, including diagnosis and ordering and interpreting tests to prescribe medication, among others. Students can apply to one of two tracks: Adult/Gerontology or Psychiatric/Mental Health. Applications close February 15.

Many of Hunter’s nursing graduates stay in New York City after graduation, where they bring their skills and dedication to the community, enhance the city’s healthcare system, and meet the local demand for qualified healthcare professionals.

“The Evelyn Lauder Fellowship is a life-changing initiative for our students and New York City, addressing the primary care shortage and equipping our graduates to make a significant impact in underserved areas,” said Dr. Ann Marie P. Mauro, Joan Hansen Grabe Dean of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. “We are incredibly proud of our Lauder Fellows and their dedication to providing world-class care and improving health outcomes where it is needed most, and we are thrilled to be welcoming a new cohort.”

Overseen by Evelyn Lauder Associate Dean Dr. Maya Clark-Cutaia, the program is a partnership with New York Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal health system. It provides a pipeline of highly educated nurse practitioners to the city’s neediest communities, including homeless and mentally ill populations.

Based at the Hunter-Bellevue campus at 60 West St. in Manhattan, the program trains about 25 fellows annually. Admission requires a minimum overall GPA of 3.3; students must complete their program of study in two years.
