H+H Partnership

In what ways does working in New York City’s public hospitals give Lauder Fellows a deeper understanding of health equity and the social determinants of health?

New York City’s public hospitals have given the Lauder Fellows the opportunity to bring the dream of equity to life in a world where it can be difficult to see how individual actions make a difference each day. These hospitals stand on the frontlines of healthcare, often serving as the final refuge for those who are impoverished, ill, and in need of care to extend their lives and fulfill their purpose. Through their daily work as nursing professionals, the Lauder Fellows help make this mission a reality—offering hope, healing, and dignity to those who need it most.

How does the partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals help prepare Lauder Fellows to enter the nursing workforce?

The NYC Health + Hospital partnership exemplifies how visionary leadership can transform healthcare in ways that are both inspirational and impactful. It places the work of the Lauder Fellows at the forefront of the nursing profession while emphasizing the importance of equitable patient care. This collaboration demonstrates how the exceptional preparation provided through the Lauder Fellowship, combined with the extensive resources of NYC Health + Hospitals, creates a powerful model for delivering outstanding medical care—regardless of a patient’s financial means.

From your perspective, how do experiences like the H+H partnership shape the next generation of nurse leaders—especially those committed to serving diverse and underresourced communities? Please share an example.

Tackling healthcare equity is a formidable challenge, particularly when the responsibility falls to nursing professionals working within complex medical systems filled with obstacles and legitimate barriers to lasting success. Yet, the NYC Health + Hospital partnership offers Lauder Fellows daily opportunities through their clinical placements to collaborate with practitioners who inspire through action—delivering exceptional care, one patient at a time, across underserved communities. These H+H mentors embody professional excellence and generously pass the torch to the next generation of caregivers: the Lauder Fellows.
