Talk about running the floor!

Hunter senior Alexa Charles is leading the entire NCAA in both scoring and steals this season — ranking first across Divisions I, II, and III in total points, points per game, total steals, and steals per game. Her remarkable two-way performance has vaulted her past players from some of the nation’s biggest programs, putting a Division III star at the very top of college basketball’s national leaderboards.

“Alexa’s work ethic and competitiveness set the tone for our entire program,” said women’s basketball head coach John Garrett. “These records reflect how hard she works every day and how much she impacts winning. She’s not just putting up numbers; she’s elevating everyone around her.”

Her statistical dominance is not limited to Division III. As of mid-January, Charles is the nationwide leader across all three NCAA divisions in:

  • Total points: 388
  • Points per game: 32.3
  • Total steals: 87
  • Steals per game: 7.25

Those national marks add to a growing list of career achievements. Earlier this season, Charles became the first player in Hunter women’s basketball history to score 2,000 career points, a milestone that underscored her sustained scoring excellence and consistency. She followed that achievement during the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Tournament over winter break by becoming the CUNYAC all‑time leader in field goals made, now totaling 938 for her career.

During the same tournament, Charles reached another rare benchmark, becoming the conference’s all‑time steals leader. She surpassed the 500‑steal mark last week and currently sits at 511 career steals, reflecting her defensive instincts, effort and impact on both ends of the floor.

The milestones illustrate Charles’s complete influence on the game. Her scoring efficiency and volume place her among the nation’s elite, while her defensive numbers highlight the relentless pressure and anticipation that have consistently disrupted opposing offenses.

Beyond the record book, Charles has been a fixture on the conference, regional, and national stage, earning multiple CUNYAC weekly and postseason honors, along with regional and national recognition throughout her career.

As the season continues, Charles remains an active leader for the Hawks, building a resume that now includes national Division III dominance, conference‑record performances, and milestones that place her among the most accomplished players in CUNYAC history.
