Hunter Career Week Draws More Than 3,100

It was bigger and better than ever!

Hunter College’s Career Week — a dynamic, week-long series of events connecting students with job opportunities — drew a crowd of 3,100 students.

Kristina Simonson, director of Hunter's Career Center.

The week-long format represented a significant expansion of earlier day-long career fairs, which included one session with about 40 employers in the fall 2024 and two sessions with 78 employers this past spring, said Kristina Simonson, director of Hunter’s Career Center.

“We wanted to make a bigger splash this year and will be moving forward with Career Week as a signature offering of the Career Center,” Simonson said.

A Week Packed with Opportunity

The ambitious expansion paid off, attracting a large and diverse group of employers. The week featured:

  • Career Fair: 76 employers (59 public sector, 17 private sector)
  • Graduate School Fair: 73 schools and programs (25 CUNY, 48 non-CUNY)
  • Volunteer Fair: 20 nonprofit organizations
  • Federal Work-Study Fair: About 30 on-campus departments

Beyond tabling at the fairs, many other employers participated in specialized panels, networking events, and information sessions during the week.

Expanding the event to a full week allowed for programming catering to many student interests and needs, such as the opportunity to get a professional headshot. The Career Center partnered with nine departments to host career-themed events, from a media networking session and study abroad panel to a public-interest tech panel and an alumni networking mixer.

An alumna who volunteered for the mixer, Elizabeth Capano, BSN ’06, MSN ’15, said she received an email about the event and signed up immediately.

“If you can’t give money, you give time, right? That’s why I’m here. And the students are so curious, so excited, and at a great college with all the opportunities ahead of them,” Capano said. “They should take advantage of these events because you never know who you’re going to meet.”

To ensure comprehensive industry coverage, the Career Center supplemented on-campus events with virtual sessions on the Handshake platform.
