The times when classes at Hunter College’s 68th Street Campus begin and end — known as the “bell schedule” — will change in the spring semester.
Starting with the Spring 2026 semester, Hunter College will implement a new bell schedule for classes held at the 68th Street Campus.
Effective Monday, January 26, 2026, the new schedule streamlines class blocks and introduces a significant change to Community Hours. The adjustments follow a comprehensive review process and approval by the Hunter College Senate, incorporating input from students, faculty, and staff.
Key Changes to Class Schedules
Classes will generally be in session between 7 am and 9:45 pm, Monday through Sunday. Under the new grid:
- Most weekday classes will meet on a Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday pattern, or once a week on Fridays. Classes that meet three times a week will include a Friday (i.e., Monday, Wednesday, Friday.)
- Weekend classes will typically meet once a week and remain largely unaffected.
- Exceptions may apply for specific science labs and art studio hours.
Community Hours Move to Friday
A major change for the spring semester is the shift in “Community Hours” — when no classes are scheduled, allowing groups such as the Undergraduate Student Government, faculty, or departments to plan meetings or get-togethers.
- Old Schedule: Tuesdays and Wednesdays (2:30 pm–3:45 pm)
- New Schedule: Fridays (Noon–2 pm)
Student Advisory: Check Your Times & Locations
Because class time blocks have shifted from the fall semester, students are strongly encouraged to review their Spring 2026 schedules carefully.
Please double-check the start and end times of your courses, as well as their locations. When planning your schedule, ensure you have allocated sufficient travel time to move between buildings or campuses, particularly if you have back-to-back courses.
Note: This new bell schedule applies specifically to the 68th Street campus. Exceptions to the time schedule include courses in the schools of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions; courses at Silberman, 63 Madison, and Hudson Street campuses; and courses that meet for longer than three hours.
